Substance Abuse

Substance Abuse Treatment Services (SATS) is responsible for planning, coordinating and administering a comprehensive statewide system of substance abuse treatment activities. SATS develops, supports and advocates for high quality, accessible, comprehensive and clinically appropriate substance abuse treatment services in order to decrease the negative effects of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use in Rhode Island, and improve the overall behavioral health of Rhode Islanders.

SATS' responsibilities are:

• to develop comprehensive statewide policies, plans and programs;
• to assess treatment needs and capacity; to evaluate and monitor state grants and contracts;
• to provide technical assistance and guidance to programs, chemical dependency professionals and the general public; and
• and to research and recommend alternative funding and service delivery strategies to enhance system efficiency and effectiveness.
