What is the application process for admission to the Eleanor Slater Hospital?

Referring physicians/agencies should contact the Admission Office at (401) 462-3433 between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:00 pm, or the Information Desk (401) 462-3085 after 4:00 pm

Applications for Elective Admission can be obtained through the Admission’s Office (401) 462-3433. All completed applications should be sent to: Admissions Office, Regan Building, Eleanor Slater Hospital, P.O. Box 8269, Cranston, RI 02920. With all supportive documentation (i.e. nurse/physician progress notes, lab reports, consults, etc.)

Admission to the Eleanor Slater Hospital varies depending on which specific type of medical service is required, acute services, long term care service, adult psychiatric services, elective admission, and emergency admissions.

What clinical services do you provide?

The Eleanor Slater Hospital provides acute services, long term care services, and adult psychiatric services.

The hospital’s acute service is located in the Regan Building. This unit consists of 77 beds and serves as the hospital’s initial assessment and evaluation unit. This building also treats patients from the hospital’s long-term care and psychiatric units who have developed medical conditions that require intense monitoring and therapeutic intervention.

Our long-term care service is comprised of beds located in the Manuel Mathias Building, Virks Building, and the Zambarano Unit. These areas emphasize on the quality of life standards, which are uniquely associated with long term care.

The hospital’s adult psychiatric services are comprised of two areas: the Adolf Meyer Building and the Philippe Pinel Forensic Unit. These areas specialize in providing evaluations; diagnosis, care and treatment for people are psychiatrically impaired with chronic and persistent mental illness. Admission to the Forensic Unit is based on R.I. Forensic Statutes. These units consist of beds.

Where are you located?

The Eleanor Slater Hospital is comprised of two separate campuses. The Cranston campus is located at the John O’Pastore Center in Cranston and the Zambarano Memorial Hospital is located in Burrillville. Link to driving directions.

Is your hospital affiliated with any colleges and universities?

The Eleanor Slater Hospital Nursing Department affords the opportunity for Rhode Island state colleges such as the University of Rhode Island, Rhode Island College and the Community College of Rhode Island to complete clinical rotations for registered nurse and licensed practical nursing students. The clinical experience is offered on an ongoing basis and includes observation of nursing procedures and practices and the opportunity to participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings.

Although there are no formal nursing program affiliations at the Zambarano Unit in Burrillville, nursing rotations at the Cranston site include visits to the Zambarano Unit.

The Eleanor Slater Hospital is also a major teaching resource for colleges and universities throughout Rhode Island: The University of Rhode Island (physical therapy, occupational therapy, exercise science, speech pathology, bioelectrical engineering, etc.) and Brown University/Butler Hospital (geriatric psychiatry, neuropsychiatry, and forensic psychiatry).
